P0630

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0630 indicates that there is an issue with the vehicle identification number (VIN) programmed in the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). The VIN may not be programmed at all, or it may not match the VIN programmed in the other modules of the vehicle. This may cause issues with vehicle operation, emissions, and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) identification.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Failed emissions tests

  • Issues with vehicle operation and performance

  • DTCs related to VIN or ECM/PCM programming

Possible Causes:

  • ECM/PCM replacement without proper programming

  • Failed ECM/PCM

  • Faulty wiring or connections in the VIN circuit

  • VIN not programmed into the ECM/PCM at the factory

Related Parts:

  • Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM is the part of the car computer that controls the engine system and performance. Problems lead to poor fuel economy, engine stalling & unwanted engine vibrations

Possible Solutions:

  • Reprogram the VIN into the ECM/PCM using a diagnostic scanner and the correct software

  • Verify that the ECM/PCM is the correct one for the vehicle and is functioning properly

  • Check and repair any damaged wiring or connections in the VIN circuit

  • Contact the manufacturer to obtain the correct VIN and programming information if the VIN was not programmed at the factory
